GOP Rips Walker's Vote On Burris
Voting in lock-step with Illinois Democrat leaders, newly-elected State Rep. Mark Walker (D-66th) opposed a House Resolution last Thursday (Feb. 19) that urges the U.S. Senate to take swift and immediate action to address the mounting concerns surrounding Roland Burris' appointment to the U.S. Senate.
According to Republican National Committeeman Pat Brady, Walker's vote to support Roland Burris is "troubling" in light of recent news outlining potential perjury and play-to-play allegations.
"Roland Burris continues to be protected by Democrats in the Illinois House," said Brady. "They hid his most recent affidavit outlining his contacts with Blagojevich insiders and they refused to release information showing how Burris contradicted previously sworn testimony before the Illinois House Special Investigative Committee. Now Democrats like Mike Madigan and Mark Walker are opposing a U.S. Senate investigation into Roland Burris and a special election. Burris deceived the Illinois legislators and our citizens, but Illinois Democrats like Walker and Madigan continue to protect and support him. That's troubling and wrong."
"The reality is the Democratic Party in Illinois did not hide anything," said Walker. "I am willing to investigate and see what the attorneys come up with. Frankly, Brady's comments are ridiculous."
Specifically, House Resolution 93 urges the U.S. Senate to expeditiously investigate claims that Burris may have perjured himself before the Illinois House Special Investigative Committee along with reviewing Burris' newly discovered discussions with Blagojevich insiders seeking help for fundraising.
If findings warrant action, the resolution also urges the entire U.S. Senate to expel Burris and to have a special election to fill the vacancy.
Walker joined 66 other Democrats, including Blagojevich's campaign chairman Madigan and State Rep. Barbara Flynn Currie (D-25th), who had refused to release the latest Burris affidavit, in voting to not allow debate or a vote on House Resolution 93, according to Brady.
Walker's district includes portions of Elk Grove Village, Mt. Prospect, Arlington Hts., Des Plaines, Rolling Meadows, and Schaumburg.
