It's time for Illinois to fix it's broken mental health system. NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, recently completed a state-by-state comparison of mental health services. Illinois was one of only 8 states to earn the grade of F and I have had the head of a local hospital's mental health unit tell me that the grade was richly deserved. Illinois needs to put a significant effort into permanent supportive housing for the mentally ill. That is the way Illinois can get more bang for its mental health bucks.
